I’m the author of Monoculture: How One Story is Changing Everything (Red Clover, 2011), which won the 2011 George Orwell Award for outstanding contributions to the critical analysis of public discourse, and was chosen as one of The Atlantic’s top 11 psychology books of 2011. I write about big ideas, culture, creativity, and the interaction of complex systems.

In Monoculture, I draw on extensive research and make surprising connections among disciplines to take a big-picture look at how one story is changing everything.

I describe myself as “a deep generalist” — someone who looks for unexpected patterns and connections across a broad range of cultural systems, organizations, and human interactions.
